    A rectangular tank 25 cm long and 20 cm wide contains water to the depth of 5 cm. A metal cube of side 8cm is placed in the tank so that one face of the cube rests at the bottom. Find out how much water must be poured in to the tank so that the cube is covered?

    Solutions

    Volume of cube = 8x8x8 = 512 cm3.

    Original volume of water = 25 x 20 x 5= 2500 cm3.

    New volume = 2500 + 512 = 3012 cm3.

    Actual volume to be reached is 25 x 20 x 8 = 4000 cm3.

    Amount to be added = 4000 - 3012 = 988 cm3

    A glass contains a mixture of 30 ml of whisky and water in the ratio 1:5. How much water must be added to the mixture so that the ratio of whisky and water becomes 2:11?

    Solutions

    Let the quantity of whisky and water be m and 5m respectively

    m + 5m = 30

    So, m = 5

    Let y ml of water be added

    => 5/(25+y) = 2/11

    => 55 = 2y + 50

    => y = 2.5 ml

    Directions For Questions

    Study the information carefully and answer the questions that follow:

    There are 1200 balls in a box in which 35% are black; one-fifth are white and the remaining are other colors. In black balls one-fifteenth are small in size and 65% are big in size while in white balls one-sixth are small and 55% are big.

    What is the difference in the number of big black balls and small white balls?

    Solutions

    The number of black balls =1200 X 35/100=420

    Small black balls = 420 X 1/15=28

    Big black balls= 420 X 65/100=273

    Black balls( neither big nor small )= 420-(273+28)=119

    White balls =1200 X 1/5=240

    Small white balls = 240 X 1/6=40

    Big white balls = 240 X 55/100=132

    White balls that neither big nor small = 240-(40+132)=68

    Difference = (273 - 40) = 233

    How many animals are there in a zoo?

    1. There are all but 60 Tigers and there are all but 80 Lions in the zoo.

    2. There are 10 elephants in the zoo and there are only three type of animals in the Zoo.

    Solutions

    Using statement (1) alone-

    Let the total number of animals in zoo = x

    All but 60 means all except 60.

    Number of tigers in the Zoo = x-60

    Number of lions in the forest = x-80

    We don't know how many type of animals are there in the zoo hence we can't determine total number of animals in the zoo.

    Using statement (2) alone-

    Number of elephants in the Zoo = 10 and there are three types of animals in the zoo.

    Using both the statements together

    total number of animals in the zoo = x-60+x-80+10

    x=x-60+x-80+10

    x=130

    so total animals in the zoo = 130

    Directions For Questions

    Table given below shows the total number of employees in five different departments P, Q, R S and T of company A and total number of male employees in those five departments of company B.

    Table also shows the ratio of male employees in five departments of company A to that in company B.

    Number of female employees in each department of company B is 15 less than the male employees in that department of company B.

    ...view full instructions

    Total number of male employees in company A is how many more or less than the total number of male employees in company B in all the five departments together?

    Solutions

    Total employees in department P of company A = 50

    Total male employees in department P of company B = 40

    Total male employees in department P of company A = 40 * (3/4) = 30

    Total female employees in department P of company A = 50 - 30 = 20

    Total female employees in department P of company B = 40 - 15 = 25

    Total employees in department P of company B = 40 + 25 = 65

    Similarly, we can calculate other values .....

    Total number of male employees in company A = 30 + 15 + 40 + 25 + 50 = 160

    Total number of male employees in company B = 40 + 25 + 30 + 20 + 60 = 175

    Difference = 175 - 160 = 15 less

  • Question 6/10
    1 / -0.33

    Find the wrong term in the series given below.

    642, 322, 164, 82, 42, 22

    Solutions

    The pattern is as follows:

    (642 + 2) / 2 = 322

    (322 + 2) / 2 = 162

    (162 + 2) / 2 = 82

    (82 + 2) / 2 = 42

    (42 + 2) / 2 = 22

    Each of the following questions are followed by two statements 1 and 2. Answer each question using following instructions.

    What is the price of 2 pens and one pencil?

    1. Price of 6 pens, 5 pencil and 4 tables is Rs 2500.

    2. Price of 4 pens, 3 pencil and 2 tables is Rs 1300.

    Solutions

    Let the price of one pen, one pencil and one table be Rs a, Rs b and Rs c respectively.

    Using statement (1) alone-

    We have; 6a + 5b + 4c = 2500 .. (1)

    Using statement (2) alone-

    We have; 4a + 3b + 2c = 1300 .. (2)

    Using both the statements together-

    2 X Equation (2) - Equation (1) => 2a + b = 100

    Find the wrong term in the series given below.

    5, 17, 53, 163, 485, 1457

    Solutions

    The pattern is as follows:

    5 x 3 + 2 = 17

    17 x 3 + 2 = 53

    53 x 3 + 2 = 161

    161 x 3 + 2 = 485

    485 x 3 + 2 = 1457
