The country's biggest skill competition 'India Skills 2018' has concluded in New Delhi. It was the 2nd edition of the nationwide competition organized by the Ministry of Skill Development. The event is organised to identify, recognize, promote and reward the talents in various skills. Some winners of the event will represent India at the 45th World Skills Competition at Russia in 2019.

India-born economist, Gita Gopinath has been appointed Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). She will succeed Maurice Obstfeld, who announced his retirement in July. She is the second Indian economist to be appointed as IMF chief economist after Raghuram Rajan. She currently serves as professor of International Studies and Economics at Harvard University.

Renowned harmonium player Pandit Tulsidas Borkar passed away in Mumbai. Borkar was conferred with the Padma Shri award in 2016 and also the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. He had accompanied legendary singers such as Ustad Amir Khan, Bhimsen Joshi and Kishori Amonkar. Borkar was known for both solo performances as well as his unique style of accompanying Indian classical singers.

India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) did away with ATM cards and debit cards for both cash and cashless transactions. IPPB will issue new QR (Quick-Response) cards which work on biometric authentication and not on passwords or PINs. QR card transactions can be done through postmen, post offices or Grameen Dak Sevaks (GDS).

A joint military training exercise between India and USA named as "Yudh Abhyas 2018" was conducted in Uttarakhand from 16 to 29 September. This is the 14th edition of the joint military exercise hosted alternately by both the countries. The two-week exercise saw the participation of about 350 personnel of the US Army and 'Garud Division' of the Indian Armed Forces.
