    In the following problems, there is one question and some statements given below the question. You have to decide whether the data given in the statements is sufficient to answer the question. Read all the statements carefully and find out which of the statements is/are sufficient to answer the given question. Choose the correct alternative for each question.

    What is the length of train?

    I . Train cross a man in 9 sec at the speed of 72 km/hr.

    II . The train cross an another train 16 sec, when train running in same direction.

    III . Train crossed goods train, which running in opposite direction in 7.2 sec.

    Solutions

    only I sufficient to give answer of the question
    from I, length of train = 72 ×  5/18 ×9
    = 180 meters
    From II, length and speed of both train not given
    From III, length and speed of both train not given.

    In how many days P can complete the work alone?

    I . P and Q complete work together in 10 days.

    II . Q and R complete work together in 12 days.

    III . P and R complete work together in 15 days.

    Solutions

    I, II and III all are sufficient to give answer.
    From all three statements we made total work 60 unit. Then we would find P and Q together made 6 unit work day. Q and R together made 5 unit work day and Q and P together made 4 unit work day. After combing all three statement we get require solution.

    A container contains a mixture of milk and water in the ratio of 17 : 5. Now, 22 liters of the mixture is taken out from the container and 4 litres of pure water and 6 litres of pure milk is added to the mixture. If the resultant mixture contains 25% water, what was the initial quantity of mixture in the container before the replacement? (in litres).

    Solutions

    Let Milk =17x
    Water = 5x
    Milk in 22 liter mixture = 17 liter
    Water in 22 liter mixture = 5 liter
    Now water = 5x – 5 + 4 =5x-1
    Total quantity = 22x -22 + 10 =22x-12
    Water % = 25%
    (5x-1)/(22x-12) = 1/4
    20x-4=22x-12
    2x=8
    => x= 4
    Total initial quantity = 22x = 88 liters
