President of India has awarded one President's Tatrakshak Medal for Distinguished Service, five Tatrakshak Medal for Gallantry and two Tatrakshak Medal for Meritorious Service on the to Indian Coast Guard personnel. The President's Tatrakshak Medal for Distinguished Service has been awarded to IG Rakesh Pal. These awards are being given to the personnel of Indian Coast Guard since 1990.

• Indian Railways is building the world's highest rail lines that will connect Ladakh with Delhi.
• The location survey of the first phase is complete. The final location survey is expected to be completed in 30 months after which a detailed project report will be finalised.
• The national transporter plans to build a strategically-important Bilaspur-Manali- Leh line along the Indo-China border.

The country's first high power locomotive is set to launch from the factory in Madhepura. It is a joint effort of the government and the French firm Alstom. The project is estimated to cost Rs 20,000 Crore.

GD Agarwal who devoted his life to the cause of saving river Ganga, died on 11 October 2018. Agarwal was on a fast-unto-death for the last 111 days. He was a former professor at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur. In 2012, he formally renounced the world and adopted the name Swami Gyanswaroop Sanand.
