A pipe A can fill a tank in 12 hours. Due to development of a hole in the bottom of the tank 1/3rd of the water filled by the pipe A leaks out, the time when the tank will be full is:
Verify mobile number to view the solution
net efficiency =1-1/3=2/3
hence time taken=12/(2/3)=18 days
Three pipes A, B and C can fill a cistern in 6 hours. After working together for 2 hours, C is closed and A and B fill the cistern in 8 hours. Then the time in which the cistern can be filled by pipe C will be :
Pipe A can fill a cistern in 12 hours but it take 8 hour longer because of a leak in its bottom. How long will the leak take to empty the full cistern.
Assuming that the capacity of cistern is 60 litres.
Pipe take 12 hour to fill = 5 litres per hour
With leak cistern take 20 hours to be filled = 3 litres per hour
So, leak is emptying the cistern = 2 litres per hour
As we have assumed that capacity of cistern is 60 litres so the leak will take 30 hours to empty it.
If one pipe A can fill a tank in 20 minutes then 5 pipes each of 20% efficiency of A, can fill the tank in:
A → 20} 20 → 1 per min.
1 pipe with 20% less efficiency will fill 1 × .2 = .2 litr of water in 1min.
So, 5 pipes will fill the tank in 1min. = .2 × 5 = 1 ltr
So, the time taken to fill the tank by 5 pipes = 20 ÷ 1 = 20 min.
Alternate method-
A pipe P can fill a cistern in 30 hours. Another pipe Q can fill the cistern in 60 hours. If both pipes opened together, then in how many hours the cistern would be filled?
A water tank is two-fifth full. Pipe A can fill the tank in 10 minutes and pipe B can empty it in 6 minutes. If both the pipes are opened, how long will it take to empty or fill the tank completely ?
Three taps A, B, C can fill an overhead tank in 4, 6 and 12 hours respectively. How long would the three taps take to fill the tank if all of them are opened together?
The internal dimension of a Cistern are 120 cm 80 cm, and 50 cm. How many cubes each of edge 7 cm can be placed in the cistern with faces parallel to the sides of the tank.
Pipe A can fill a tank in 5 hour, pipe B in 10 hours and pipe C in 30 hours. If all the pipes are opend, then the tank will be filled in :
Two pipes can fill a cistern in 3 hours and 4 hours respectively and a waste pipe can empty it in 2 hours. If all the three pipes are kept open, then the cistern will be filled in:
