The largest inhabited riverine island in the world is Majuli in the river Brahmaputra. The island is located some 2.5 kilometres from the river bank and is at a distance of about 300 kilometres from Guwahati, Assam’s largest and most populous city. Majuli is currently listed as the world's largest river island in the Guinness Book of World Records.
