Ladakh is a cold desert located in the great Himalayas. Hemis National Park, India's largest national park, is located in this desert.

The mountain Mount Everest was named after Sir George Everest. He was a British geographer and general surveyor. Mount Everest was named after him in 1865 AD.

The mountain range on the west coast of India is called the Western Ghats or Sahyadri mountain range.

The Nallamalla Hills are the eastern extension of the Nilgiri Hills of the Eastern Ghats, which extend across the states of Andhra Pradesh (Kurnool, Nellore, Guntur, Prakasam, Cuddapah and Chittoor) and Telangana (Mahboob Nagar and Nalgonda). Bhairani Koda (3048 ft) is the highest peak of Nallamalla hill.

Aksai Chin is located at the meeting point of the borders of India, China and Pakistan. During the Indo-China war of 1962, China occupied this territory (Aksai Chin), since then this is a area of border dispute between the two countries. The Ladakh Plateau is also located in the Aksai Chin region.

The world's second highest mountain peak, K₂, is located in the Karakoram mountain range, also known as Godwin Austin. It is the highest mountain peak (8611 m) of the Western Himalayas and India.

Maikal Range is located in Chhattisgarh. The highest peak of this mountain is Amarkatak (1036 m). The Sone and Narmada rivers originate from here.It is here inhabited by Baiga and Gond tribes. Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary and Melghat Tiger Reserve are also located here. Kanha National Park has been established in Madhya Pradesh area of Macaulay ranges.
