The Arjun Awards was instituted in 1961. Arjun Awards was presented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and sports to acknowledge the outstanding achievement in National Sports.
• The Dronacharya Award is the sports coaching honour of the India.
• The award is named after Drona, often referred as "Dronacharya" or "Guru Drona", a character from the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata of ancient India.
• It is awarded annually by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
• As of 2017, the award comprises a bronze statuette of Dronacharya, a certificate, ceremonial dress, and a cash prize of ₹5 lakh.
• It was instituted in 1985.
• The first recipients of the award were Bhalchandra Bhaskar Bhagwat (Wrestling), Om Prakash Bhardwaj (Boxing), and O. M. Nambiar (Athletics), who were honoured in 1985.
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy was instituted in 1956- 57 as a running trophy by the Ministry of Education, Govt. This running trophy is awarded by the President of India each year to a University which has all round best performance in sports at Inter-University, National and International competitions.
