Ferdinand de Saussure made a clear distinction between speech and language. He called them _______________________.
Ferdinand de Saussure referred to speech and language as Parole and Langue respectively. He distinguished between them as well. Langue therefore corresponds to the common meaning of language, and the pair langue versus parole is properly expressed in English as 'language versus speech',[1] so long as language is not to be taken in evolutionary terms, but as a description of an (ultimately lifeless) immaterial sign system. It is the concept of any language as a semiological system, a social fact, and a system of linguistic norms. Parole, in typical translation, means 'speech'. Saussure intended for it to mean both the written and spoken language as experienced in everyday life; it is the precise utterances and use of langue. Therefore, parole, unlike langue, is as diverse and varied as the number of people who share a language and the number of utterances and attempts to use that language.
Who proposed Language Acquisition Device?
Language Acquisition Device or LAD is a hypothetical module of the human mind through which an infant or child is enabled to acquire or produce language. It was first proposed by Noam Chomsky in the 1960s. Chomsky believed that children must have an inborn faculty for language acquisition. According to this theory, the process is biologically determined - the human species has evolved a brain whose neural circuits contain linguistic information at birth. The child's natural predisposition to learn language is triggered by hearing speech and the child's brain is able to interpret what s/he hears according to the underlying principles or structures it already contains. This natural faculty has become known as the Language Acquisition Device (LAD). Chomsky did not suggest that an English child is born knowing anything specific about English, of course. He stated that all human languages share common principles. (For example, they all have words for things and actions - nouns and verbs.) It is the child's task to establish how the specific language s/he hears expresses these underlying principles.
Sapna, an English teacher is taking a class but, her class is really noisy and active. What is the most probable cause for it?
Group discussion is one the best ways of language teaching. It helps the students to express views on different subjects and situations. It improves thinking, listening and speaking skills of the child. Language learners should be amply provided with such activities in which they get maximum opportunities to listen and speak thereby improving their oral and auditory abilities.

Here, the focus is on unit approach which recognizes that certain subject/content knowledge is crucial for a learner at any given age. Any unit that is designed into the curriculum is done keeping this in mind. Therefore being content-centered is one of the primary characteristic of the unit approach of curriculum.
