  • Question 1/10
    1 / -0.33

    In a college, there are five sport teams. 5% students played for all the teams and 5% played for none. Out of remaining, 25% played for only one team and 20% played for four teams. If the remaining 198 students played for two teams, then find the number of students in the college.

    Solutions

    Let number of students be 100x

    5x played for all teams and 5x played for none.

    Remaining students = 100x - 10x = 90x

    25% of 90x = 22.5x played for one team, and 20% of 90x = 18x played for four teams.

    Remaining students = 100x - 5x - 5x - 22.5x - 18x = 49.5x = 198 (Given)

    x = 4

    Hence total students = 100 * 4 = 400

  • Question 2/10
    1 / -0.33

    Each of the following questions are followed by two statements 1, 2. Answer each question using following instructions.

    What is the salary of Abhishek?

    I) Savings of Abhishek is 250% more than that of Babita.

    II) If Abhishek gives Rs 500 to Babita, salary of Abhishek will be twice the salary of Babita.The ratio of expenditure of Abhishek to expenditure of Babita is 7:2.

    Solutions

    From I:

    Let the savings of Abhishek and Babita be p and q respectively.

    p = (1+250/100)q

    => p = (7/2)q

    But we cannot determine the salary of Abhishek

    From II:

    Let the salary of Abhishek and Babita be a and b respectively

    a-500=2(b+500)

    => a=2b+1500

    Let the expenditure of Abhishek and Babita be m and n respectively.

    m/n=7/2

    But we cannot determine the salary of Abhishek

    From I, II:

    Salary = Savings + Expenditure

    a = p + m

    b = q + n

    Ratio of salary of Abhishek to that of Babita = a/b = (p + m)/(q + n) = (7q/2 + 7n/2)/(q + n)

    = 7/2

    Therefore, salary of Abhishek and Babita will also be in the ratio of 7:2.

    Now, we have

    a=2b+1500, and a/b=7/2

    => a=4a/7 +1500

    => 3a/7=1500

    => a=3500

    So, the salary of Abhishek is Rs 3500

    Directions For Questions

    Table given below shows the total number of employees in five different departments P, Q, R S and T of company A and total number of male employees in those five departments of company B.

    Table also shows the ratio of male employees in five departments of company A to that in company B.

    Number of female employees in each department of company B is 15 less than the male employees in that department of company B.

    ...view full instructions

    What is the ratio of total employees in company A to that in company B in all the five departments together?

    Solutions

    Total employees in department P of company A = 50

    Total male employees in department P of company B = 40

    Total male employees in department P of company A = 40 * (3/4) = 30

    Total female employees in department P of company A = 50 - 30 = 20

    Total female employees in department P of company B = 40 - 15 = 25

    Total employees in department P of company B = 40 + 25 = 65

    Similarly, we can calculate other values .....

    Total employees in company A = 50 + 40 + 75 + 60 + 90 = 315

    Total employees in company B = 65 + 35 + 45 + 25 + 105 = 275

    Required ratio = 315: 275 = 63: 55

    What is the difference between the average number of employees in both the companies in the department Q and the average number of employees in both the companies in the department S?

    Total number of employees in both the companies in the department Q = 40 + 35 = 75

    Average = 75/2 = 37.5

    Total number of employees in both the companies in the department S = 60 + 25 = 85

    Average = 85/2 = 42.5

    Required difference = 42.5 - 37.5 = 5

    Directions For Questions

    Study the information carefully and answer the questions that follow:

    There are 1200 balls in a box in which 35% are black; one-fifth are white and the remaining are other colors. In black balls one-fifteenth are small in size and 65% are big in size while in white balls one-sixth are small and 55% are big.

    What is the difference in the number of small white balls and small black balls?

    Solutions

    The number of black balls =1200 X 35/100=420

    Small black balls = 420 X 1/15=28

    Big black balls= 420 X 65/100=273

    Black balls( neither big nor small )= 420-(273+28)=119

    White balls =1200 X 1/5=240

    Small white balls = 240 X 1/6=40

    Big white balls = 240 X 55/100=132

    White balls that neither big nor small = 240-(40+132)=68

    Difference = (40 - 28) = 12

  • Question 6/10
    1 / -0.33

    A, B and C started a business by investing the amounts in the ratio of 7 : 4 : 5. If A invested entire amount for 9 months, B invested entire amount for 7 months and C invested entire amount for 10 months then the highest profit obtained by any of these three is Rs 6300. What is the total annual profit obtained from the business?

    Solutions

    Ratio in which profit has to be divided = (7 X 9) : (4 X 7) : (5 X 10)

    = 63 : 28 : 50

    Hence it is clear that A will get maximum share of the annual profit.

    Let's assume annual profit = Rs P

    Therefore; P X 63/141=6300

    => P = Rs 14100

  • Question 10/10
    1 / -0.33

    Four years ago, the average age of a 4 member family was 40 years. 3 years ago, a boy got married to a 23 year old girl, and they had a baby boy last year. What is the average age in years of the family 2 years from now assuming no one joins or leaves from the family in the next 2 years.

    Solutions

    Four years ago, sum of all the family members age = 4 X 40 = 160

    Three years ago, sum of all the family members age = 164 + 23 = 187

    Last year, sum = 197 [ 187 + 5 + 5]

    Two years from now, sum = 197 + 18 = 215

    average = 215/6 = 35.8
