    The assembly first met on 9 December 1946. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru introduced the Objective Resolution on December 13, 1946, which established the concept and guiding principles for building the Constitution and eventually took the shape of the Preamble to the Indian Constitution. On 22 January 1947, the Constituent Assembly accepted this Resolution. 

    Objective Resolution enshrined the aspirations and values of the constitution-makers. Under this, the people of India were guaranteed social, economic and political justice, equality and fundamental freedoms.

    They include equality of status, of opportunity and before law, social, economic and political justice, and freedom of thought, expression, belief, faith, worship and association, subject to (the) law and public morality.
