Prarthana Samaj was founded in 1867 in Bombay by Atmaram Pandurang with the inspiration of Acharya Keshab Chandra Sen. Mahadev Govind Ranade joined this institution in 1869. The main objective of this institution was to oppose the caste system, increase the age of marriage of women and men, encourage widow re-marriage and women education. The social reform movement of Ranade continued successfully till the end of the 19th century.

The Indus is a transboundary river of Asia and a trans-Himalayan river of South and East Asia. The 3,180 km (1,980 mi) river rises in Western Tibet, flows northwest through the Ladakh and Gilgit-Baltistan regions of Kashmir, bends sharply to the left after the Nanga Parbat massif, and flows south-by-southwest through Pakistan, before it empties into the Arabian Sea near the port city of Karachi.

Deepor Beel is located to the south-west of Guwahati city, in Kamrup Metropolitan district of Assam. It is a permanent freshwater lake, and it is also a wetland under the Ramsar Convention which has listed the lake in November 2002. The Hokersar is a wetland conservation area in Zainakote near Srinagar in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. In 2005, the reserve was recognised as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention as Hokera Wetland. Kanjli Wetland, a man made Wetland, which subsumes the Kanjli Lake, is located in the Kapurthala district of Punjab. The rich biodiversity of the wetland comprising aquatic, mesophytic and terrestrial flora and fauna including some important species of plants and animals was recognized internationally by the Ramsar Convention in 2002 by designating the Kanjli Lake in the List of Wetlands of International Importance. Nandur Madhmeshwar Bird Sanctuary is located at Niphad Tehsil of Nashik District, of Maharashtra.It is designated as Ramsar Site in 2019 and it's a Maharashtra's first Ramsar site.

The Sri Lanka Time reverted on 15 April 2006 to match Indian Standard Time calculated from the Allahabad Observatory in India 82.5 ° longitude East of Greenwich, the reference point for GMT. In 1880, it was UTC+05:30. During World War II, in January 1942, when the Japanese were on the verge of invading Ceylon, the time was shifted to UTC+06:00. In September 1942, it was further advanced to UTC+06:30. When the War ended in 1945, Ceylon reverted to UTC+05:30 to be the same as India. But in May 1996, it was changed to UTC+06:30 for daylight saving during a severe power shortage in Sri Lanka. The clocks were put back by half an hour to UTC+06:00 in October 1996, though it was changed back again to UTC+05:30 in April 2006.
