Charles John Canning became the first viceroy of India in 1858. He is known for the following important events during his tenure: The Mutiny of 1857, which he was able to suppress successfully; Passing of Indian Councils Act, 1861 which introduced portfolio system in India; Withdrawal of “Doctrine of Lapse” which was one of the main reasons of mutiny of 1857; Introduction of Code of Criminal Procedure; Indian Penal Code (1860); and Enactment of Indian High Courts Act.

In 1669 A.D., the Jats under their leader Gokul, revolted. They killed the Faujdar and plundered the Pargana of Sadabad. The rebellion soon spread to other districts and Aurangzeb ruthlessly suppressed the rebellion.  The Jats, however, remained defiant and in 1686 A.D. revolted again, under Rajaram. He too, was slain but his nephew, Churaman, continued the Jat resistance till Aurangzeb’s death.

Article 127. Appointment of ad hoc Judges

(1) If at any time there should not be a quorum of the Judges of the Supreme Court available to hold or continue any session of the Court, the Chief Justice of India may, with the previous consent of the President and after consultation with the Chief Justice of the High Court concerned, request in writing the attendance at the sittings of the Court, as an ad hoc Judge, for such period as may be necessary, of a Judge of a High Court duly qualified for appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court to be designated by the Chief Justice of India.

243F. Disqualifications for membership

(1) A person shall be disqualified for being chosen as, and for being, a member of a Panchayat

(a) if he is so disqualified by or under any law for the time being in force for the purposes of elections to the Legislature of the State concerned: Provided that no person shall be disqualified on the ground that he is less than twenty-five years of age, if he has attained the age of twenty-one years;

(b) if he is so disqualified by or under any law made by the Legislature of the State

(2) If any question arises as to whether a member of a Panchayat has become subject to any of the disqualifications mentioned in clause ( 1 ), the question shall be referred for the decision of such authority and in such manner as the Legislature of a State may, by law, provide.

The NIA works under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. The state government extends all assistance and co-operation to the NIA for investigation of the offences specified under the NIA Act. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) was constituted in 2009 under the provisions of the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 (NIA Act). It is the central counter-terrorism law enforcement agency in the country. The NIA was established in the backdrop of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, popularly known as the 26/11 incident.

All of the above items have been excluded from GST regime.
