    The Satavahanas appeared as the successors of the Mauryas in the Deccan region. 

    The Matsya Purana lists their origin and rule for over 450 years. The Satavahanas were also known as Andhras, Andhrajatiyah and Andhrabhrityas in Purana.  It was founded by Simuka. They emerged at the banks of the Godavari river in Maharashtra and Andhra state. 

    Gautamiputra Satkarni (86-110 AD): 

    He was the greatest ruler of this dynasty.
