The first President of Indian National Congress (INC) was WC Banerjee. INC was founded by AO Hume (a retired British Civil Servant) in 1885 and its first session was held in Bombay in the same year. It was attended by 72 delegates from all over India. Persons attending the session belonged to different religious faiths. They discussed the problems of all the Indians irrespective of their religion, caste, language and regions.

The British Government Resolution in 1835 made English the official and literary language of India. Lord William Bentinck appointed a committee headed by Lord Macaulay to make recommendations for the promotion of education. In his report, Macaulay emphasized the promotion of European literature and science through English medium to the people of India. This recommendation was wholeheartedly accepted by William Bentinck.

• Dadabhai Naoroji was the first Asian to be elected to the British Parliament.

• In 1886,1893 and 1906, i.e., thrice was he elected as the president of INC.

• In the 1892 Parliamentary Elections in Britain, Dadabhai Naoroji was elected from the Finsbury Central seat as a candidate of the Liberal Party.

* Fraternity word refers that No one should treat a fellow citizen as inferior.

* Fraternity promotes the dignity of the individual and unity and integrity of the nation.

* In 1976, the Preamble was amended (only once till date) by the 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act.

* Three new terms, Socialist, Secular, and Integrity were added to the Preamble.

• The central nodal agency for implementing price support operations for commercial crops is NAFED.

• NAFED stands for National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd.

• NAFED was founded on 2 October 1958.

• Its headquarters are in Delhi.

• It has 4 regional offices at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.

• It has 28 zonal offices in important cities and capitals of states.

The National Statistics Day has been designated as one of the Special Days to be celebrated at the national level and is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Late Prof. P C Mahalanobis, on 29th June, in recognition of his invaluable contribution in establishing the National Statistical System.

The theme of National Statistics Day, 2021 is Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)- 2 (End Hunger, Achieve Food Security and Improved Nutrition and Promote Sustainable Agriculture).

On this occasion, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation also recognizes the outstanding contribution for high quality research work in the field of applied and theoretical statistics benefiting the official statistical system.

After every five years, World Statistics Day is celebrated on October 20.
