    In an examination, three different sections of X standard with 60, 70 and 80 students participated, and their pass percentages were 95, 80 and 75 respectively. What is the pass percentage of X standard?
    Solutions

    No. of students passed in different sections

    60 × 95% = 57,

    70 × 80% = 56 and

    80 × 75% = 60

    Total students passed in X std. = 57 + 56 + 60 = 173

    Total students in X std. = 60 + 70 + 80 = 210

    The population of two villages is 1860 and 3744 respectively. If the ratio of male to female population in the first village is 8 : 7 and the ratio of male to female population in the second village is 13:11, then what is the ratio of male to female population of these two villages taken together?
    Solutions
    Population of first village = 1860

    Ratio of male to female population in the first village is 8 : 7

    If male population in the first village is 8x then number of female in the first village will be 7x

    15x = 1860

    x = 124

    Hence, population of male in the first village =

    population of female in the first village =

    Population of second village =3744

    Ratio of male to female population in the second village is 13:11

    If male population in the second village is 13y then number of female in the second village will be 11y

    24y = 3744

    y = 156

    Hence, population of male in the second village =

    population of female in the second village =

    Total number of male in both villages = 992 +2028 = 3020

    Total number of Female in both villages = 868 +1716 = 2584

    Required Ratio = 3020 : 2584 = 755 : 646

    The percentage of metals in a mine of aluminium ore is 75%. Now the percentage of metal A is  of metals and rest is aluminium. If the mass of ore extracted from this mine is 5500 kg, the mass (in kg ) of aluminium is :
    Solutions

    Mass of aluminium ore = 5500 kg

    Mass of metal in aluminium ore = 75% of 5500 kg =

    Mass of metal A in metals present in aluminium ore =

    Mass of aluminium in ore = 4125 kg – 13.75 kg = 4111.25 kg

    The monthly salaries of A and B are in the ratio 3:5 . If A and B get an increase of 5% and 10% of their existing salaries respectively, what will be the new ratio?
    Solutions

    The monthly salaries of A and B are in the ratio 3:5.

    Let monthly salary of A = 3k

    Monthly salary of B = 5k

    A and B get an increase of 5% and 10% of their existing salaries respectively.

    New salary of A =

    New salary of B =

    New Ratio = 3.15k : 5.5k = 63 : 110
