Which of the following is the most likely structure of CrCl3.6H2O, if 1/3 of total chlorine of the compound is precipitated by adding AgNO3 to its aqueous solution?

    Solutions

    [Cr Cl2 (H2O)4] Cl. 2H2O + AgNO3 → AgCl ppt
Out of coordination sphere only one chloride ion is present. Ions that is present out of coordination sphere only participate in precipitation.

Which of the following is the cause of Brownian movement of colloids?

    Solutions

Due to the unbalanced bombardment of the particles by the molecules of the dispersion medium.

  • Question 3/3

Which one of the following methods is used to prepare borax crystals?

    Solutions

Colemanite is a mineral which is finely powdered and is boiled with Na2CO3solution.

    Ca2B6O11 + 2 Na2CO3→ Na2B4O7 + 2 NaBO2 + 2 CaCO3↓

During the reaction CaCO3 is precipitated out which is removed by filtration. Then the filtrate is concentrated and cooled to separate the borax crystal. Sodium metaborate present in the mother liquor can be converted into borax by passing a current of carbon dioxide through it.
